LIVING IN ANTIGUA

WANT TO MAKE YOUR HOME HERE?

Why not really make yourselves at home on our island? Purchasing, renting or even building a second home here is as popular as ever, and there’s an increasingly wide choice of villas, apartments and real estate options to consider...

WHY MOVE TO ANTIGUA?

The reasons behind our property boom are obvious. Antigua offers an enviable lifestyle of sun, sea and sand. The politics are stable, and the economy is driven by tourism. Our 100,000 permanent residents are an interesting mix of people, not just from the Caribbean but from all over the world.

Another incentive is that Antiguan passports may be obtained through our Citizenship Investment Programme (CIP) introduced on qualified properties. There are four different investment options starting at US$100,000 for a single applicant.

Antigua also prides itself on being a small but trusted financial centre. The long-established Global Bank of Commerce is just one of the licensed banks offering a full range of well-regulated, technology-driven financial services to anyone thinking of relocating to our shores.

And should you need medical assistance while you're on the island, the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre is a 185-bed teaching hospital offering a full range of services from primary to critical care. Heritage Medical Services also have clinics in English Harbour and Jolly Harbour, their doctors able to treat you at home should you lack transportation.

WHERE SHOULD I LIVE?

Where you live in Antigua is vital, of course, and will have a great impact on your own enjoyment as well as on your property’s resale value. If you simply want to get away from it all, you should probably head southeast and settle in the scenic coastal areas around Brown's Bay and Nonsuch Bay. Alternatively, friendly communities and excellent beaches, as well as first-class infrastructures, await in English Harbour in the south and Jolly Harbour in the west –Tamarind Hills overlooking Darkwood Beach, for example, takes luxury to new heights. Or you may prefer to be a hop, skip and jump away from our capital St. John's. Prime residential areas in the northwest include Dickenson Bay, Crosbies and Paradise View.

SETTING UP HOUSE

When it comes to setting up house, you’ll also be spoilt for choice. Living Spaces, Townhouse Megastore and the Antigua Home and Garden Centre are just three well-stocked stores offering quality furniture and household items for every room in your home. So Teak showcases designer wicker and teak outdoor furniture tailor-made for our extreme tropical climate. The emporium that is The Posh Pirate even sells quality antiques sourced directly from its international clientele. Of course, if you’re a Brit and prefer to ship your own furniture over, the Geest Line has been operating across the Atlantic Ocean for more than 65 years.

And you won’t have to compromise when it comes to stocking up your fridge either. Epicurean, Island Provisions and The Cork & Basket are just three stores able to provide everything from local fruit and veg to luxury biscuits from Waitrose and exceptional teas from Harney & Sons.  Crab Hole Liquors, with stores in both Falmouth and Nelson's Dockyard, is where to head for a great selection of fine wines and spirits.

REAL ESTATE EXPERTS

Most property buyers are internet savvy nowadays. They arrive on the island having already narrowed down their options. They’ll probably have contacted a professional estate agent affiliated with ABRA, the Antigua Barbuda Association of Realtors. These property experts have access to a wide variety of pre-owned homes and villas and will advise you on the latest market conditions.

Antigua & Barbuda Sotheby’s International Realty is one of our leading real estate agencies. The company is exclusively affiliated with a local company boasting 15 years experience on the island. They don’t just represent private villas and popular developments, they’ll also point you in the right direction if you want to purchase a piece of land and build from scratch.

Chestertons Antigua & Barbuda also offer expert advice on the local property market, their services ranging from real estate and land evaluations to holiday and long-term rentals, including concierge services. They'll also tell you everything you need to know about our Citizenship By Investment Programme.

LEGAL PROFESSIONALS

If you're looking for legal assistance, Stapleton Chambers are the people to call. With 35 years experience in the field, this full-service law firm knows all there is to know about Antigua's real estate and immigration laws, conversant in litigation and commercial transactions too.

THE PROFESSIONALS

The island is also blessed with a wealth of architects, builders, contractors and designers who’ll be delighted to help you with everything from the construction to the style of your Antigua dream home. For example, Ward & Associates is a luxury design studio whose impressive portfolio includes everything from hotel facelifts to brand new residential resorts. Leeward Islands Hurricane Protection can install everything from your security screens to your hurricane shutters, while Anjo Insurances, established on the island since 1928, will ensure all your insurance needs are met.
